July holidays where a great success with Rolling M bursting at the seams, it is so great guests are coming back time and time again and becoming great friends, plus a few new guests coming to the Ranch for the first time.
Great excitement with Sammy’s puppies at the farm for all the children to play with, a couple of parents after a few drinks in the bar could not find their children, after much searching they where found fast asleep with the puppies!
July holidays is always centred around the bull sale, which this year was on the 3rd of July. Mike selects the bulls a year before the sale and starts fattening them ready for the sale. There are three farmers who share the auction selling 100 bulls between them.
The excitement starts on the Wednesday the day before the sale when the guests help us drive the bulls the 8km to the auction. This year we had a bit of excitement as two bulls started to fight disrupting the drive and all the cowboys and girls were trying to get out of the way of 2 bulls weighing 2 tons as they came hurtling down the road. We just managed to sort that situation out when another bull decided he would head for home. Thanks to Neils the day was saved as he leapt of his bike and stopped a run a way bull! No dull moments at Rolling M.

The 3rd of July we all woke up early to be at the Bulls Sale. Lots of excitement as Neils and Jo bought a bull together, which was one of Mike’s bulls which we brought back to the farm to mature and put on the sale for next year. Mike was very happy with the sale as he received good prices for most of his bulls, one of the bulls fetched R40 000. After the auction we had a delicious lunch and drinks and then went back home to sleep in preparation for the party. The party started at five and went on ‘till well past midnight with Afrikaans music blasting all the while. There was a huge bonfire which kept the chills off the night away. All round it was a great event.
Just before the holidays, Zolig our male Harlequin Great Dane was stolen, we have posters up all over town offering a R1000.00 reward, it is now three weeks and still no news. Zolig has left a huge empty space I keep counting the dogs to see if they are all their. Realizing Zolig might not return Mike phoned the breeder whom he bought Zolig from and found another male from the same line Megan brought her down from Joburg for us. His name is Chaka he is 7 weeks old and extremely cute and has fitted into the Ranch life. He has a brother called MaGop’s also 7 weeks old. MaGop is a Whippet, he has spots so should fit in well!
